Destin Florida

Destin is still the happiest little fishing village on Florida's Emerald Coast, and for good reason: Destin is home to some of the best fishing and boating in the state. In fact, the city's motto is "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village," and that's most likely due to it owning the largest fishing vessel fleet in the state as well.

The Destin area has plenty to do on and off the water. If you want to relax on the white sand and clear blue waters, you've definitely come to the right place.

October is also known as one of the most popular months for fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities, so if you plan to partake in these activities, you should take note of the time of year. October is also the perfect time for a weekend trip to the beach or a week-long vacation.

The climate is ideal for golf and fishing all year round, including at the award-winning Sandestin Golf Course. If you're looking for unique activities, you could rent a pontoon boat to hang out with hundreds of others at a huge floating party every weekend. The beaches in Destin are sugar white, soft, and surprisingly cool, even in the heat of summer.

Destin is an area that stretches from coastal town to town, but the island is actually a prestigious peninsula that juts out into a glittering Gulf on the south side of the peninsula. The white sand reflects the sun, forming a stunning emerald in the water and undoubtedly contributing to the stretch of coastline known as the Emerald Coast.

The town was named after Leonard Destin, a fisherman from New London, Connecticut, who lived in the area between 1845 and 1850. And long before that, the region's Indians lived here and discovered the area's natural resources, including an abundance of seafood.

Destin has even been named by Southern Living Magazine as one of the best places for a family beach holiday, and it has something for the whole family.

The city has accepted and promoted this motto, among other things, through its annual fish and seafood festival. The city's heritage as a seafood and fisheries mecca has been embraced by many residents and visitors. Among the popular events in October is the Destin Fishing Rodeo, which takes place in the harbor throughout the month.

Due to its proximity to the ocean, Destin's food scene is thriving — with seafood restaurants every block or so along the beach. Each offers a unique but equally wonderful dining experience that guarantees you'll be back for more for years to come.
